about
A couple years back, I wrote this song for my sister and adopted nephew, born three months prematurely. Due to his amazing doctors, nurses and therapists, and of course, the love of his two beautiful caring mothers, I’m happy to report that Easton has grown to be a healthy, happy and hugely talented young boy, despite the overwhelming challenges he’s had to endure. This Mother's Day, my sister, Danielle Walsh, and I have recorded a live version of the song to help raise money for March of Dimes, a charity dedicated to ending premature birth, birth defects and infant mortality. Donate what you can and share the track anywhere and everywhere to help spread the word, and more importantly, to help other children like my nephew get the bright futures they deserve.
While I’m at it, I’d like to say Happy Mother’s Day to the most loving person I know, my mom, Carole Walsh. You are so incredibly full of compassion and heart, I can only hope one day to become half as selfless and strong as you. Thanks for being an amazing role model these past 24 years.
Thank you and Happy Mother’s Day to all.
lyrics
Lyrics:
So they made a promise
That they couldn’t keep
All the rules you followed
Nearly brought you to your knees
But it don’t matter now
You made it out
For every day you waited
For all the false alarms
The time you thought you’d wasted
The time you chose to carry on
Oh, look how strong
You’ve become
Now there’s hope
In a mother’s arms
All that we are born into
Those things we can’t escape
Maybe he’ll lose his sight
But look at everything he’s gained
It’s a mother’s pain
But it’s everything
Tethered up in red tape
As his tiny hands grab yours
There’s no scrap of paper
That could change the things a heart does know
So your heart endures
Till he’s yours
Now there’s hope
In a mother’s arms
He had to learn long before he was due
That the only thing that pulls us through
Is the courage that we find in each other’s company
As the world gets colder
You’ll hold him closer
